The Recent Fate of David

Many people know Michelangelo for his famous sculpture of David. The statue is a symbol of Florence. It is the symbol of human courage and will.

In the beginning ‘David’ stood ready to fight on the square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, as the sculptor himself insisted. This place used to serve as at he Florentine town hall. Identifying it as a symbol of strength, very soon the statue became well-known among the city’s citizens. Eventually the statue became the Florentine symbol itself.

Unfortunately the statue suffered and damaged much during the years. On the 26th of April Medici was leaving Florence. Out of one of the palace’s windows a bench was thrown. It got into the statue and damaged it much. The bench had hit David’s left arm and View the rest of this article
