Nanotechnology

by Jules Steinberg

Nanotechnology and nanoscience began in the early 1980’s with two major developments; the origin of cluster science and the invention of the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM). This development led to the discovery of fullerness in 1986 and carbon nanotubes , not long afterward. In a different development, the synthesis and properties of semiconductor nanocrystals was studied. This led to a fast increasing number of metal oxide nanoparticles of quantum dots.

Nanotechnology is the science and development of materials at the atomic and molecular level in order to permeate them with unique electrical and chemical properties. Nanotechnology, which deals with very small particles usually less than 100 nanometers in size, is likely t View the rest of this article
